Olympus PEN range of new cameras – a new age in photography
Olympus Imaging Australia Pty Ltd invited a selection of photographers, retailers and media to the global launch and tantalising sneak peek at the new range of Olympus PEN SLR cameras, the PEN E-P3, PEN Lite E-PL3 and PEN Mini E-PM1.
Harry Matsushita and Masami Takase from Olympus Imaging Global in Japan hosted the event at the Boutwell Draper Gallery at Redfern. Around the gallery artists created works on canvas from images produced from the innovative new cameras while eager photographers excitedly bustled to try out their skills on the new ‘PEN’s’.
Olympus PEN SLR cameras are dubbed the ‘new generation system’ made possible by the elimination of the quick-return mirror and the reflex prism – that’s right folks, a mirror-less camera.
Olympus PEN E-P3 is the flagship camera of the range with it’s interchangeable lenses and the world’s fastest autofocus. MiSociety had a good ‘tryout’ of this camera and it’s speed really is astounding for it’s size whilst also encompassing many features to facilitate all areas of photography.
Centrepiece of the new Olympus PEN series is the Lite E-PL3 with it’s rapid sequential shooting speed of 5 frames per second and image quality built on the same advanced technology which powers the new E-P3.
Olympus PEN Mini E-PM1 is the first of the new PEN Mini range. This little gem is stylish and ultra compact enough to pop into a handbag while still supporting superior SLR imaging quality and Full HD video capabilities.
While taking ‘happy snaps’ with the often inferior cameras in mobile phones may satisfy some, the Olympus PEN’s look likely to breed a whole new generation of those who demand superior quality in their photographic endeavours.
