Mazda Opera in the Domain is an opportunity for Sydney to experience Australian opera at its best with a free public performance in the beautiful surrounds of The Domain.
Everyone is invited to share in one of Sydney’s favourite summer treats, and it’s all for free. Join the stars of Opera Australia together with the Opera Australia Chorus and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, conducted by Paul Kildea for a crazy and memorable summer night.
CANDIDE is based on Voltaire’s satirical novel of 1759. Candide is a hilarious, harsh and hedonistic adventure. Festival Director Lindy Hume has created a semi-staged version of Bernstein’s operatic fantasy which features some of American music theatre’s greatest moments. Performed in English with surtitles.
Pre-show entertainment from comedy duo Hamish and Andy will set the scene for a night of fun and frivolity.
A range of food and beverages is available in the Domain from early afternooon to the
end of the evening, or you can bring your own picnic. For the comfort of our patrons high chairs and beach umbrellas are not allowed and, to protect the lawns, plastic sheeting and ice are not permitted on the grass.
