Performance 4a Stories Then and Now - powerful new theatre work traces six heart-wrenching personal journeys of contemporary Asian-Australians

Performance 4a Stories Then and Now is presented by Carriageworks and Sydney’s principal contemporary Asian Australian performance company Performance 4a, Stories Then & Now delves deep into the narrators’ family histories. An umbrella event of this year’s Sydney Writers’ Festival, the work traces the tumultuous journeys of six lives across several generations and multiple continents, to reveal how the past has shaped the present.
Performance 4a Stories Then and Now work is directed by renowned Asian-Australian photographer and master storyteller, William Yang, whose performance pieces have toured internationally. His work is often autobiographical, exploring themes of marginalisation as part of an Australian-Chinese family, and gay and Aboriginal communities. Prominent media figure, writer and broadcaster, Annette Shun Wah, is co-director and producer. The production is brought to life with music by celebrated composer and musicologist, Nicholas Ng.
