Stefania Fernandez from Venezuela has won Miss Universe 2009 – see pic and what they are saying
Congratulations to our girl Rachael Finch Miss Universe Australia.
Stefania Fernandez from Venezuela won the Miss Universe 2009 title., the second consecutive win for the South American country in the annual beauty pageant.
18-year-old Stefania defeated Australia’s Rachael Finch to become the 58th winner of the crown in a show that broadcast live around the world from the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas.
First runner-up was Miss Dominican Republic, Ada Aimee de la Cruz. Miss Kosovo, Gona Dragusha, was second runner-up.
Fernandez received the crown from 2008 Miss Univers Dayana Mendoza, a fellow Venezuelan , who almost dropped the jewel-studded crown in the process
It is the first time that a contestant from the same country won the title for a second year running.
Venezuela is famous for its beauty queens and has accumulated more international beauty pageant titles than any other country with only the United States winning more with seven Miss Universe titles.
Australian Rachael Finch from Townsville had been favoured to win the crown. Rachael’l mother Colleen Zablocki said “She’s done herself proud, she’s done Townsville proud and her country, so you can’t ask for a better result than that.”
