Certainly a day for the mud runners
Seems Royal Randwick just can’t win a post. On what should have been one of their biggest days of the racing calendar the heavens opened and a deluge hit. All outside areas were deserted creating an earie feel as unwatched horses ploughed their way round the track in the wet fog.
The Carousel garden party goers crammed together in marques leaving the ‘garden’ deserted but nothing was going to deter these hearty ticket holders as they partyed on with sodden shoes, wilting fascinators and shivering ‘tans’.
About the only ‘dry’ place was the Sydney Confidential marquee that still managed to fly the ‘race day’ social flag with guests (somehow) still looking well turned out and seemingly unperterbed by the external cyclonic conditions.
Have to say we were somewhat mystified as to why the ‘contracted’ police chose to do a walk through ‘inspection’ of the Confidential marquee even though it was already under the watchful eyes of professional security – hmm fashion police maybe (sorry).
