Semillon and Seafood Festival and the Verandah Restaurant and Mount Pleasant Wines VIP luncheon.

We are all  blessed by the vast array of  fantastic  things to do around Sydney and it’s regions.   MiSociety has definitely concluded that sitting or strolling (or sashaying) while sipping Semillon and sampling sumptuous seafood atop a rise with the vista of the Hunter Valley and  it’s mountainous backdrop spread before you is up there with the best.

The major event for the 2009 Hunter Valley Semillon and Seafood Festival was held Saturday at Tyrrell’s Vineyard where over 150 Semillons were on offer for sampling along with wine appreciation sessions and lashings of seafood delights, oils, cheese and breads from Hunter producers and local restaurants.  There were also oyster appreciation classes, cooking demonstrations, live music and you get to meet all the famous winemakers to boot – all in a single day at the same spot!

A new addition this year was the VIP Marquee where guests were treated to a brilliant three course meal, cooked on site by the chefs from The Verandah Restaurant and hosted by Mount Pleasant Wines.  We have to say the barramundi served here would have to be some of the best we have ever had and the selection of the absolute premium accompanying wines superb.

Now you may ponder that a food and wine festival that only focuses on one variety of wine could jade the palate – wrong.  In reality sampling a single wine genre heightens one’s awareness of the distinct differences and complexities that soil compositions and wine making styles can muster.

MiSociety has attended several large Hunter Valley events over the last several years and are always impressed by how well they are organised.  Mick, from Rover Coaches, who personally orchestrates the buses for large events, is the maestro of transport in the Hunter and we reckon we should get him down to Sydney to lend a hand sorting our transport woes!

A fabulous day in a special Hunter Valley weekend. If you missed this one the Loveday Long Lunch is coming.

We stayed with the lovely people at the  Pokolbin Village Resort and you can read all about that here.   Sunday was spent  meandering around the vines – but that’s another story that’s coming soon.

If you missed the Semillon and Seafood Festival the 2009 Lovedale Long Lunch is coming 16 & 17 May.
