17TH BIENNALE OF SYDNEY, THE BEAUTY OF DISTANCE:
Songs of Survival in a Precarious Age

Due to building renovations, the Gallery is participating as a supporting venue with works displayed in the Entrance court. This year’s exhibition includes challenging and beautiful works works by seven leading artists from Asia: Makoto Aida, Liu Jianhua, Wang Qingsong, Raqib Shaw, Hisashi Tenmyouya, Jennifer Wen Ma and YAMAGUCHI Akira. Abstraction for beginners Saturdays until 31 July, 11am*
Discussion tours designed to demystify abstract art by looking at important moments in its evolution.

Free lunchtime lectures Fridays until 6 Aug, 1pm
From Malevich and the Russian avant-garde to Sonia Delaunauy and fashion, art historians take a closer look at artists, movements and ideas of the time.

Abstraction & France Fri 2 July, 5.30-8pm
Curator Terence Maloon introduces French artsits and thinkers who engaged with abstraction. In English and French. Bookings essential.

For the diary: free forums Saturday 14 & 21 Aug, 1.30-4.30pm
Hear experts and artists discuss abstraction and colour, and modernist legacies, in these two detailed events.
