PIANO INSIDE/OUT featuring Zubin Kanga

  • 7.00pm, Friday 2 July, 2010
  • Tickets from $15

Pianist Zubin Kanga returns for another exhilarating concert of new music from Australia and the UK.
Following the sellout concert Crush (July, 2009) chronology arts is excited to announce the return of
London-based Australian pianist Zubin Kanga for Piano Inside/Out (Friday 2 July, 2010), a concert of new
works from Australian and UK composers including Drew Crawford, Alex Pozniak, Newton Armstrong, Rolf
Hind, and Liza Lim.

Included in the program is the Australian premiere of Australian composer Liza Lim’s new work The Four
Seasons (After Cy Twombly). Having once claimed that she would never write for the piano, Lim’s first
piano work is one of the largest of her recent compositional output. Like the paintings of Twombly, it is both
enigmatic and seductive, creating beauty out of vibrant juxtapositions of colours and textures. Kanga has
collaborated closely with Lim in preparing his interpretation for this performance of the Australian premiere.
Also on the program are works from young composers fast developing international reputations: Drew
Crawford (AUS), Newton Armstrong (UK-based/AUS), and Alex Pozniak (AUS). Working closely with
each of the composers, Kanga will premiere three new works showcasing the innovations of each of these
young composers.
