‘Pushing for Perfection’ Photo Exhibition – The Inner Workings of a Dancers’ Studio

Jez Smith, Internationally acclaimed photographer, Sydney Dance Company are offering audiences an intimate look into a dancer’s very personal physical and mental journey in a new photo exhibition, Pushing for Perfection, opening on 23 August as part of Sydney Opera House’s Spring Dance Festival.
Following the huge success of Shared Frequencies in March 2011, Sydney Dance Company invited Jez into the studio during the development and rehearsals of Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela’s The Land of Yes and The Land of No, which will premiere at Sydney Theatre in October 2011. Jez has created Pushing for Perfection, his first solo exhibition, with a beautiful series of photographs that portray the unseen rituals, extraordinary physical strengths and precise artistry of the some of Australia’s foremost contemporary dancers, each of whom constantly pushes their mind and body to the highest possible level of perfection.
Jez is a Sydney-based fashion photographer who is perhaps most recognised in recent times for his role as photographer and guest judge on Australia’s Next Top Model. Pushing for Perfection is Jez’s first solo exhibition outside his widely acclaimed fashion, advertising and editorial work. It is the first opportunity the public will have to see Jez’s work at its most personal.
