September 27, 2009toOctober 2, 2009

  • 2 October 2009, 1pm
  • All markets catered for at Sydney International POLO SALE.

With entries now finalised, the range of horses to be offered at the inaugural Sydney
International Polo Pony Sale will appeal to all sectors of the market.
For those wishing to acquire well bred green horses that have received a basic education and had a few practice chukkas there are 11 in the first part of the catalogue from such well known breeders and trainers as Robert Doolin, Michael Fitzhenry, James Archibald, James Ashton and Joanne Reid, whose horses have gone on to players such as Glen Gilmore and Rob Ballard.
There is an outstanding catalogue of 22 medium to high goal ponies, including some that have played in the last season up to Test Match standard and others who have won champion pony prizes, with already considerable interest being shown by overseas buyers.
Amongst the vendors are local players Adam Tolhurst, Dick Doolin, Rob Ballard and Peter and Rebecca Higgins, while other NSW entries include those from Maree Easton, Jaime Mackay and the Kahlbetzer family with interstate horses from Dean Caulfield in Queensland and the Freschies from South Australia .
The balance of the catalogue is made up of 52 experienced playing horses which range from low goal club ponies to patron horses and some higher goal prospects in their first few years of competition. Buyers will be able to find ideal beginners ponies up to competitive medium goal horses amongst those on offer and, as well as some of the above vendors also presenting ponies in this section, other well known producers include Jim MacGinley from Queensland, John Patterson and Amanda Pearson.
Also in this section are 7 ponies from Will Burrell, who has retired from polo in Victoria and is selling the string which has carried him through 5 seasons up to 18 goal standard. Among them are some very experienced, quiet ponies that would suit patrons as well as some genuine high goal prospects in the right hands.
All the sale horses will be available to trial in the 3 days leading up to the sale on Friday October 2nd and will also be paraded under saddle in the morning before the sale which starts at 1 pm.
