SMH Good Food Guide 2011 Awards – if the hat fits.
The who’s who of both the Sydney restaurant scene and the burgeoning regional foodie groups converged on the Blue Hotel at Woolloomooloo in Sydney to herald the announcements of the gastronomical awards for 2011.

Good food and wine is to be expected at such an event and we certainly weren’t dissapointed with Louis Roederer fizz, Brown Bros wines and trays and tables laden with yummies.  David Marr’s cool style on the podium gave us all a giggle even though he had one ear tuned into the other imminent award  – the decision on who would be running the nation.  David had some fun imparting how the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide now incorporates a ‘secret’ code for the online version and it’s ‘apps’.

Top gong for the Emirates Chef of the Year went to Martin Benn from Sepia Restaurant with the Manly Pavilion Restaurant taking out the Plumm Wine Glasses Best New Restaurant for 2011. 

Culinary hats were gained and lost with the shock announcements that both Bilson’s (3 Hats now 2) and Tetsuya’s (3 Hats now 2) lost a hat each with Pier (3 Hats now 1) losing two.  We heard an audible groan behind us from Tony and Mandy Bilson at the loss of their ‘hat’.
