What’s on at the Riverside Theatre August – December 2010 – a diversity of concerts and music in Sydney.

  • August – December 2010 line-up of concerts

Riverside Theatres has announced a dazzling series of concerts for the second half of the year, featuring a diverse range of sounds and rhythms. The new expanded Music Series embraces gypsy, classical, world & jazz tunes and is fast becoming an essential inclusion in the diaries of music lovers, students and families alike.

“At Riverside Theatres we take great pride in bringing diversity to our concerts. Over the years we have watched with great pleasure, people of all ages enjoy live music of all genres. Our next installment is dedicated to making accessible great music to everyone,” said Director of Riverside Theatres, Robert Love.

Highlights from Riverside’s Music Series for the second half of the year include Oz Opera’s only performance in Sydney of La traviata, one of the world’s most-loved operas. Written by Verdi, La traviata tells the story of the courtesan Violetta, who attempts to escape the shackles of luxury with her young lover, Alfredo.

Don’t miss the Gypsy guitar legend, Lulo Reinhardt. Performing with his five piece band direct from Europe, Reinhardt’s Latin-Swing Project combines pure Gypsy-Swing with the sensual sounds and rhythms of Latin music such as flamenco, tango and bossa nova.

The delightful SBS Youth Orchestra pays tribute to the bicentenary of Chopin’s birth with the concert Chopin – Cultures & Legacies, celebrating not only Chopin’s work and that of his contemporaries.

The precocious little sister of Australia’s finest orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, AcO2 is an ensemble with a fresh, energetic performance, directed by the outstanding young Australian violinist Kristian Winther.

With ancient practice at its core, TaikOz’s Blessings of the Earth explores a synthesis of East and West, old and new by combining tradition with the latest contemporary compositions and blending the taiko drums with the ethereal sound of the bamboo shakuhachi.

Also coming to Riverside is David Helfgott, one of the world’s best loved pianists and the Café Carnivale series including performances from the bands Heval, The Klezmar Connexion, Zumpa and Jorge Campano & Rasa and Duende.
