An avalanch of Alpine fun in Sydney
The magic of an Alpine winter ‘avalanched’ into Sydney in June with the launch of the Sydney Winter Festival 09.
At the launch party NSW Minister for Tourism Jodi McKay told rugged up guests that the Festival was about celebrating the magic of winter in Sydney and promoting NSW snow experiences – as well as food and beverages from the region. Jodi said it was such a feel good evening she was sorry she had to leave for a Budget Dinner.
Guests eagerly sought out the brilliant Apres-ski atmosphere, created with the installation of an outdoor ice rink and delicious winter cuisine with the whole area floodlit at night. The ambience was that of a scene from a Christmas card of old and all the joy and fun associated with such times, no doubt helped along by the warming gluehwein on offer. ‘MiSociety’ even witnessed a real life marriage proposal that took place on the ice – a match made in a Winter Wonderland.
All tickets for the ice skating were sold out before the launch evening and so popular was the event “MiSociety’ imagines organisers may be seeking a bigger venue if the Festival is repeated next year.
