Sydney Writers’ Festival 2012 – Liao Yiwu

November 14th, 2011

* SYDNEY

Liao Yiwu will perform the poetry for which he is renowned and speak to Festival artistic director Chip Rolley about his views on China today.

  • Monday 21 May 2012
  • Belvoir Street Theatre (Upstairs Theatre)

Sydney Writers’ Festival, in association with Belvoir, invites you to see and hear Liao Yiwu, the Chinese poet, writer and performer, in this special out-of-season event.

Last May we were deeply disappointed when Chinese authorities would not grant Liao Yiwu permission to leave China to attend the Festival.

He has since fled China and is living in exile in Berlin.

Liao Yiwu will perform the poetry for which he is renowned and speak to Festival artistic director Chip Rolley about his views on China today, his poetry and the stories that make up his life’s great work — the interviews with China’s underclass, many of which are collected in The Corpse Walker.

Liao Yiwu’s conversation will be interpreted.
