Taste of Sydney 2013 Serves Up Another Gastronomical Night
The 5th Annual Taste of Sydney opened on March 14, 2013 with an awards ceremony at the Miele Taste of Sydney VIP Lounge in the lovely grounds of Centennial Park. Taste of Sydney is a wonderful alfresco dining experience filled to the brim with gourmet food, wine, award winning chefs – it’s the go to place to sample dishes from Sydney’s top restaurants and learn about up-and-coming ideas and trends in the culinary world.

This years line up included:
– 4Fourteen
– Ananas Bar and Brasserie
– Biota Dining
– Efendy
– Four in Hand
– Jonah’s
– L’étoile
– Muse Dining
– Popolo
– Porteno
– Saké Restaurant & Bar
– Three Blue Ducks
– The Cut Bar and Grill
– The Woods
– Malaysia Kitchen Pop Up

Sydney served up the perfect weather for sitting under a tent and sampling canapés and great Australian beer at the Miele VIP lounge waiting for the Best in Taste awards to begin. The Front of House award went to Kitchen by Mike in Roseberry, Sydney. Ex-Rockpool Head Chef Mike McEnearney runs this canteen style café serving a menu that changes daily based on what can be found at markets. Third Prize was awarded to Papolo Restaurant in Rushcutters Bay. The award was presented by Karen Larson and she described Jacopo Corbetta’s food as really tasty- like a mother’s hug. Second Prize went to Lewis Tickeram of Longrain. This prize was presented by Terry Durack of Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Living. Finally First Prize was awarded to Porteno Restaurant in Surry Hills for their Texan smoked beef Brisket. Pascal Aussignac presented champagne to Ben Milgate who explained the dish – it cooks for eight hours splayed out over an ironwood bark fire.

VIP guests mingled with the award winning chefs and then walked outside to sample the great food and drink on offer. Some highlights were Three Blue Ducks’ iconic dish Oyster Cream, Sea Pearls and Perslane, Baked Baby Beetroot by The CUT Bar and Grill, Pistachio Gelato by Sublime Gelato and the Basil and Cucumber Fizz at the Cointreau Tent.   Kiri Yanchenko
