The Merchants of Bollywood is a Bolly Dazzler – Archived event
The Merchants of Bollywood is all the colour, choreography, costuming and comedy of a Bollywood movie live on stage. It’s glamorous, glitzy and gregarious and doesn’t pretend to be anything else.
The ‘Bollywood’ movie industry produces 800 movies a year for a world wide audience that just keeps lapping them up. Why? Because of all of the above, plus, they are fun and unpretentious.
The speed of the dancing is incredible and we pondered the question “just how fast can they go?” at one point during a dancer’s corkscrewing spirals we wondered if he would in fact helicopter skywards. As in Bollywood movies, a story weaves though the show but it’s the dancing and visuals with the young gorgeous girls and guys that shine.
With the bubbling, contagious energy happening on stage opening night, the mainly theme dressed audience at the State Theatre clapped, danced and jigged along.
Carol Furtado stars as ‘Ayesha’ on stage and was just as stunning up close at the opening night after party which was almost as colourful as the show with lots delightful outfits and a mountain of Indian food within Sydney’s gorgeously atmospheric State Theatre.
