The Victoria Room Mad Men and Martinis Soiree

Retro Mad Men and Women at The Victoria Room
Mad Men parties are the trend at the moment but one of the best in Sydney had them ‘dressed to the nines’ at The Victoria Room in Sydney to celebrate the introduction of a Moet Hennessy designed bespoke martini trolley.

60’s retro gear, inspired by the Mad Men television show, was the invite’s dress code and wow did the attending guys and dolls of Sydney get into the swing of it.  ‘Ladies’ swirled around in petticoated full skirts, straight dresses with floating back details, lots of florals and satins and all topped off with gloves and hats to match.  Mad Men clones circled the room in their black suits, heavy rimmed glasses and an interesting assortment of ties.

MiSociety felt as though we had suddenly stepped back into another era on entry to the fabulous Victoria Room in all its retro glory.  Over stuffed lounges, floor rugs, a myriad of cushions and wonderful hued lighting glowing from a collection of period lamps and shades.

A large screen loomed on a wall projecting images of ‘advertisments’ from the days when sexism was so alive and well proclaiming such gems as “The Chef (stove) doesn’t do the cooking – that’s what wives are for” prompting whales of laughter from around the room.

Lurking over in the corner was the latest in ‘pop-ups’ a ‘pop-up’ retro boutique from Sydney store Coco Repose.  Displaying racks of dresses, outfits and accessories seemingly straight out of classic movies it wasn’t long before there was a huge crush amongst the coat hangers.

The Victoria Room doesn’t do anything by halves!  Not only did we have the atmosphere of a bygone era we had the drinks and food to match.  Pigs in Blankets, Devilled Eggs, Vol au Vents and Crab Salad were snapped up to accompany the classic cocktails such as  the Gimlet, Old Fashioned and Manhattens.

The Victoria Room are holding two more Mad Men parties on 21st April and 19th May, 2011 with free entry so if you missed this one you’d better dust off your sixties retro gear and get the gang together.  Bookings 02 9357 4488 or email michael@thevictoriaroom.com
