‘Theme and variations’ is a real  Steinway to Heaven

‘Theme and Variations’ a spectacular new showroom housing the world’s most exclusive and valuable pianos glittering grand opening  in Sydney.

“The new ‘Theme & Variations’ Steinway showroom is a landmark of excellence for all musicians who know Ara in the musical community”, said leading Australian pianist Roger Woodward.  “There is no pianist I know in this country who is not indebted to him and to his wife Nyree for their kindness and persistent support.  Ara can be described as the pianist’s silent partner – the one sent from heaven,” said Woodward.

Roger Woodward was referring to Steinway & Sons agent and renowned piano technician Ara Vartoukian and his wife Nyree who recently held a fabulous  party to launch Sydney’s only Steinway showroom.

Guest of honour on the evening was Ara’s long time friend and virtuoso pianist and principal conductor for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Vladimir Ashkenazy.  Vladamir joined Ara for a ribbon-cutting ceremony that followed a transfixing performance by the exciting Australian pianist, Alexey Yemtsov.

Invitees, including high profile guests from the ‘pianorati’ world travelled internationally and nationally to attend and admire the beautifully designed showroom space.  But the ‘key’ guests of course, were the extraordinarily crafted Steinway pianos displayed therein.  Not surprisingly, the evening had a real touch of class with the vivacious Nyree and the welcoming ‘Theme & Variations’ team ensuring everyone was royally treated to superb music, delicious  canapés and drinks.

Since 1853 Steinway pianos have set an uncompromising standard for sound, touch, beauty and investment value. Steinway remains the choice of 9 out of 10 concert performers.

Ara Vartoukian is highly respected and much loved in the Australian music community.   For over 25 years he has selected and prepared pianos for major performance venues including The Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music and The City Recital Hall in Angel Place, Sydney.

‘Theme and Variations’ was awarded the exclusive agency for Steinway & Sons in 1998.  Prior to this Vartoukian lectured at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and studied and worked with Steinway in Germany and New York.

The ‘Theme and Variations’ Steinway Showroom is located at 451 Willoughby rd, Willoughby.
