Where would you hold the launch party for SBS’ Top Gear Australia? Where else but the iconic Classic Throttle Shop at North Sydney. With an estimated $25 mill worth of vintage cars on site for this special evening these beautiful classics were enough to make anyone’s gear stick twitch. Good thing the always professional, Charlie’s Angels Security was there to prevent any ‘enthusiasts’ from becoming too attached.
The stage and screen presentation, MC’d by SBS’ talented and bubbly Julia Zemiro (RocKwiz), was huge fun and very well delivered.
Top Gear UK sat on the desk of every network in Australia but it was the smart guys from SBS who saw its potential and ran with it – the rest is ratings history. Now we have our own Oz version which is the first International production of this top ranking show.
Choosing Warren Brown, Charlie Cox and Steve Pizzati to front the show is pure genius. The genuine rapport, camaraderie and mateship between these guys was obvious on the night and will surely shine through the production.
We were privy to shorts from the new show and we can tell you, it looks like one of the best Australian productions to hit our TV screens in a long time – can’t wait.
SBS also launched their impressive Summer line-up of programming on the night which looks likely to give the commercial channels a more than good run for their money.
Top Gear hits our TV screens on 29 September 2008 – so get revved and don’t miss it.
