Variety fundraiser enlists extraordinary speaker for extraordinary event! Turia Pitt, the inspiring 25 year old bushfire survivor, will be the special keynote speaker at the upcoming Variety Cycle Launch black tie dinner fundraiser.
- Thursday September 26th, 2013
- Doltone House.
Turia’s story of survival after being caught in bushfires while running a marathon in the Kimberley touched the lives of Australians, while the young woman’s unwavering determination to reclaim her life, is truly inspiring. Turia is now set to inspire others to tackle a bicycling event, even bigger than the Tour de France to help kids in need! The inaugural Variety Cycle commencing March 22nd, 2014 will see riders cycle 3,716km kilometers over 26 days from Canberra, to Melbourne and Adelaide before finally arriving in Uluru.
A range of options are available to allow people to participate at a level to suit their skills and time availability, including one and two day legs. Turia, in yet another display of her relentless strength and determination has already signed on to do a leg of the Variety Cycle.
Even non-cyclists can support the event however, by attending the The Variety Cycle Launch gala event. This novel fundraising dinner promises to be like no other, with guests being invited to participate in a range of “revolutionary” activities not normally associated with a black tie event. Formally attired guests will be encouraged to literally get on bikes to raise money for kids in between the scrumptious three course meal and drinks.
The evening is also dedicated to promoting and enlisting participants for The Variety Cycle next year, for which Turia is hoping others will follow her lead and get on their bikes for Variety. She explains, “I am thrilled to be a part of Variety – the Children’s Charity. As a burns survivor, I know that the initial stages of medical treatment are crucial to ensuring a better quality of life. By supporting burns units (such as Westmead) Variety are securing the wellbeing of Australian kids. I cannot wait to be a guest speaker at the Variety Cycle Launch dinner and to participate in next year’s Variety Cycle.”
For bike enthusiasts, the Variety Cycle will allow them to take their sport to a new level. While John F. Kennedy once said, “Nothing compares with the simple pleasure of a bike ride”; now they can enhance this simple pleasure by helping others.
