Waitan is over as Sydney’s largest Asian restaurant throws open it doors
Waitan Restaurant official launch party saw 300 of Sydney’s social set, media and foodies descend on Sydney’s Chinatown for the much anticipated opening of the 2,500 sqm space. Lamborghinis along with stunning Asian models stopped traffic in Sussex Street as guests gathered on the red carpet to make their way inside.
Veuve Clicquot flowed from massive bottles as R & B crooner Jerson Trinidad and his band revved up the dance floor in the O Lounge (O is for Opium but there was certainly none on offer).
Duck Master Mr. Yuejin Ma was flown in to christen Waitan’s signature duck oven while the renowned John Rankin took on the role as Executive Chef for the establishment.
Singapore-based Andrew Tjioe, widely regarded as the Godfather of contemporary Asian cuisine, and other Chinese dignitaries also made an appearance at the event.
Rumour has it that the one off $50,000 bottle of Cognac on offer may have been purchased on the night no doubt sending Waitan’s sommelier scurrying off to source another from around the world.
Waitan is located at 405 Sussex St. Sydney NSW 2000.
