Waterford Crystal Lismore 60 Anniversary Collection Launch Sydney photos and story; MiSociety 28 August 2012
Waterford Crystal transforms historic prison cell into a crystal palace
Waterford Crystal Lismore Collection, marking the company’s 60th anniversary of the Lismore pattern, was launched at a glittering party at Cell Block A, Sydney National Art School with the glamorous crowd all adhering to the ‘dress black’ code.
Lismore Saucer Champagne glasses, when filled with the Piere Jouet champagne on offer, were no lightweight statement in the hand as one wove around the crystal castles illuminating the space that formerly housed female felons up until 1920. MiSociety pondered as to what crimes the previous inmates here might have committed to get their hands on a couple of the giant sized beauties we clutched – a pair of which were gifted to guests upon departure….noice!
Jim O’Leary, Director of Design and International Waterford Crystal Ambassador, when asked for a quote Irishly lilted “a good wine deserves a Waterford glass – a bad one needs it”. Love it – and the stunning glasses.
Charlotte Dawson kept a low profile on the night but not so Alex Zebotto-Bentley who was beaming proudly at the dazzling display he had co-designed with ‘The Project’ design company. Megan Gale happily posed in the rose glow of one ‘crystal mountain’ while Alex Perry, Kate Peck, Lauryn Eagle, Adam Liaw, Michelle Bridges and Sophie Faulkiner sipped and supped amongst the VIP crowd.
