Elphick’s Last Stand 2: Steve Elphick with Kim Sanders & Friends – Friday 9 December 2011
Sufi ney-master Kim Sanders and his fine collaborators will play music infused with etherial Sufi meditations, Bulgarian Gypsy grooves, Congolese pulsations, tunes of Middle-Eastern appearance, hypnotic originals, bent rhythms and collective improvisation.

This gig is also an opportunity for the band to perform with two drummers, Toby Hall and Peter Kennard, who is a superb colourist and a master of the frame drum. Together with Steve, it’s a dynamite rhythm section! They will be joined by saxophonist Sandy Evans, herself a master of many World Music idioms.

Kim Sanders (gaida (Balkan bagpipe), ney (Sufi flute), mey (Turkish double reed like duduk), kaval (Balkan/Turkish wooden flute), tenor sax Sandy Evans (tenor, sop saxes) Steve Elphick (bass) Toby Hall (drums) Peter Kennard (dhaf (Middle-Eastern frame drum), darabukka, percussion)
