What’s on in Melbourne Theatre – Courting Mae West

December 9th, 2011

Fly-On-The-Wall Theatre and Chapel Off Chapel present as part of 2012 Midsumma the Australian Premiere rehearsed reading of Courting Mae West. Written by LindaAnn Loschiavo.

  • Saturday, 28 January 2012 – 2pm (one performance only)

She was the queen of innuendo, the original Madonna, with mouthfuls of witty sass! Mae West was the first true sex symbol who, with her razor sharp tongue + challenging stage shows, arrived with the force of a hurricane. Frustrated with the male-dominated world of Broadway, West takes the radical step of writing + casting her own plays in a quest to make Broadway more “Broad minded.” Smashing taboos, shocking the middle class, enduring raids, jail time + obscenity trials, she brought gays + drag queens into the spotlight forever + sent the censors into a spin.
