Wishes on Wharf 5 – Not a dry eye aboard a Cruiser for a Cause
Make-A-Wish Foundation has one central great idea – to grant wishes for kids who have had life threatening medical adversities. In what is a regular fundraising event P&O Cruises again leant their support by making available for the afternoon their liner, Pacific Jewel, while it was berthed at Wharf 5 in Sydney.
Passengers for Pacific Jewel’s next cruise departing later in the day were already gathering at Wharf 5 as P&O staff (who so generously donated their time throughout the day) threaded us through the necessary security steps in their usual welcoming and efficient manner.
Daring aerial entertainment and a spectacular laser light show accompanied by cocktails was the entree before we were led to the dining room for a delicious three course lunch hosted by P&O Cruises.
Auctioneer Steven Smith proved the wisdom of having on board for fundraising events, a professional to direct the bidding for auction items. Steven did a rattling good job of bringing in the bids during the very lively auction section in the proceedings.
Jeremy Medlock and Petra Velkovski shouldered the MCing responsibilities and refreshingly they took us through the proceedings with a genuine enthusiasm than can sometimes be lacking of a ‘celebrity’ fulfilling a similar role. Very well done Petra and Jeremy.
Make-A-Wish ‘stories’ really touched everyone on the day. Following on from Jeremy Medlock’s heartfelt personal account of the granting of his ‘Wish’ Anthea Jackson, Make-A-Wish State Manager, recounted many other touching stories. These stories underlined how the Foundation has been able to make a difference by granting that special wish for courageous kids and their families at a time of struggle and uncertainty. MiSociety can report that during these speeches there was not a dry eye in the house.
Bessie Bardot, accompanied by her gorgeous daughter Bluebell and partner Jeff were amongst guests along with Natalie Decorte, Janek Gazech and singer Roseanne Callo who entertained during lunch.
Wishes on Wharf 5 is an annual event with the ticket price for 2011 being just $75.00 which was inclusive of entertainment, three course lunch and all drinks. So start planning now for 2012 as it is a function well worth attending and supporting.
