Modern Wool shows off innovative and avant-garde fashion in Sydney
Wool Modern exhibition, curated by London-based Charlotte Lurot, Australian launch in Sydney had guests arriving along a specially designed ‘Erdem’ red (wool) carpet event in where else, but, the former wool sheds at the historic Pier 2/3 at Walsh Bay, Sydney.
Pier 2/3’s cavernous space housed a giant ‘wool’ tree surrounded by huge screens running film of wool fashions and their sheepish four legged providers. Initial drinks and canapés were provided here before we were led into another massive space featuring the actual exhibition.
Designers, including the likes of Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano, ‘one off’ creations constructed from wool sat here amongst many other prominent international and Australian fashion and interior design creators.
Camilla Freeman-Topper (Camilla & Marc), Collette Dinnigan, Akira Isogawa, Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales (Romance Was Born), and Jenny Kee were amongst the Australian designers in attendance at the launch. All these signature designers were commissioned to submit custom-designed, one-off pieces for this extraordinary and unique exhibition.
Wool Modern is one component of a much broader global initiative, ‘Campaign for Wool’, with that campaign’s Patron being HRH Prince Charles.
Wool Modern Sydney exhibition is on view at Pier 2/3, Hickson Rd, Walsh Bay till 1st May 2012. Selected pieces will then be showcased at the QVB Sydney.
