World Cocktail Week 2011 jets into the Hemmesphere for a swell party
World Cocktail Week 2011 launched into the ‘Hemmesphere’ with level four of Merivale’s ‘The Establishment’ in Sydney decked out for first class airline party travel.
Once ‘on board’ passengers peered through the aircraft’s windows that were projected along an entire wall giving a continuous view of life at 30,000 feet complete with blue skies, passing clouds and the odd cameo appearance of 1950’s style ‘hottie hosties’. Clever stuff that had even the most ‘well travelled’ party goers intrigued.
Retro Air Hostesses strutted the aisles with laden trays of ‘real deal’ cocktails, the product of some of the industries’ finest mixologists, while the airline ‘Pilots’ worked feverishly at the bars to keep up supply.
Matt Barrie, the inaugural BRW Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 winner, Elliott Yancey, Director at Stone Movie Ltd and London bound actress, Izabella Rekiel were amongst the well chosen group of first class social travelers intermingling around the venue.
Frank Bennett crooned a-la-Frank Sinatra warming the crowd up into the night’s grand finale of what else, but an all encompassing rendition of ‘New York, New York’. Thanks Justin this was a really ‘swell’ party.
World Cocktail Week originated in America and this year it marks the 205th anniversary of the definition of ‘cocktail’. The Merivale Group leads the celebrations in Sydney throughout their venues for World Cocktail Week 2011 which will culminate in World Cocktail Day on 13th May.
Wayne Collins, a right royal cocktail icon from the U.K., is joining the mixologists in Sydney for the week when the ‘Art of the Cocktail Hour’ may be learnt and a ‘Gentlemen’s Finishing School’ attended along with a variety of world cocktail masterclasses. The popular ‘The Magnificent 7 ‘Live’ cocktail mixing competition returns again in 2011 with this event open to all and free to the public.
