Dog-gonnit – Let The Games begin.
(Apologies for the puns but we couldn’t resist).

MiSociety went ’walkies’ in the park (where a lamp post or two wouldn’t go astray) to ‘Centennial Parklands’ in Sydney to meet some furry friends at the launch of the upcoming World Dog Games.

Dynamo MC, Grant Denyer, enthused that The World Dog Games were going to be BIG – real BIG – a BIG multi-media event and BIG family entertainment’. Judging by the clever promo video that had as all yelping for more, Sydney is certainly in for a treat.

Promoter, Michael Chugge, barked from the podium that in his experience of promoting music and rock musicians the only difference between those draw cards and canine stars, was that the dogs don’t talk back! (Chugge also won a $200 bet by getting through his speech without his usual ‘colourful’ language).

There was a paws in proceedings while ‘Voda’, the blood hound, sleuthed out the winner of the lucky door prize, Diane O’Neil, who can look forward to feasting on a year’s supply of Purina doggie cuisine.

For Tara King, the creator of this pooch extravaganza, not only was the night a huge success but she was the recipient of a hearty rendition of ’happy birthday’.

The guests woofed down delicious canapes and whines, whilst the four legged celebs drooled enviously from the exclusive ‘VID’ area.

The World Dog Games will be no dog’s breakfast, as it’s all about just who will be Top Dog at the end of this first ever Olympic style canine competition.

The Games will be taking place all under one woof – at the Acer Arena on 30 October – 1 November 2009.
