Zest Restaurant, Bar and Functions Venue at The Spit (located in the Middle Harbour 16ft Skiff Club) is the highly anticipated and worth the wait baby of Zest at the Royal Motor Yacht Club, Point Piper Sydney. A very proud ‘father’, Raphael Kahn, gave an entertaining speech introducing opening night guests to their new ‘family’ member.
Zest is located in what was one of Sydney northside’s best kept secrets - ’Skiffies’. Skiffies was one of MiSociety’s favourite ’locals’ and has been sorely missed during the renovations that has now given birth to ’Zest’.
Zest’s opening night menu included selections from *’the roving meal’ such as Scallop Shot with Citrus and Sake, Prawn Skewers with Chilli Crisps, Cornet of Salmon Tartare with Crème Fraiche and Salmon Pearls as well as a huge Paella, Asian Dumpling Bar and Teppanyaki Bar. For dessert there was their Messina Gelato Bar and wait staff handing out Layered Chocolate Delice which came in a shot glass with everyone finding that just one did not suffice!
If the food coming out of the kitchen wasn’t enough, there was a table set up with other temptations like white chocolate coated almonds, grapes, meringues and a display of tomatoes and fresh basil. Undoubtedly the hit of the night on the table was the pistachio nougat – was funny to see people hacking at it with a knife and fork towards the end of the night while we were trying to figure out how to smuggle some out!
MiSociety was impressed with the renovations to the skiff club – its all timber and really warm and comfortable.
The balcony seems a lot more sheltered than the previous structure which they seem to have achieved by narrowing it a little but its now longer so roughly the same amount of space. The work they have carried out has resulted in Zest having the feel of being on a period timber boat – really cool.
Zest staff on the night were all delightful and if the opening night party is anything to go by, diners will enjoy the food and water views as much as the friendly, bubbly people bringing it to them.
Zest is a multiple winner of the Restaurant and Catering Association’s top awards, including “Caterer of the Year” Australia-wide as well as being the pioneer of the celebrated *’roving meal’ concept, where guests enjoy waves of degustation-style, pass around, miniature meals – a great way to try a little bit of everything.
