Taronga Zoo’s ‘Evolution’ Fundraiser goes Bananas
Taronga Foundation’s Zoofari fundraising event was another huge success with the marquee packed with a collection of Sydney’s who’s who, long time supporters and a terrific bunch of people.
In it’s ninth year the Taronga Foundations’ Zoofari event has become one of Sydney’s major annual fundraising events and this year was no exception. Right from the outset with a setting sun hovering over the best harbour and zoo in the world and with a collection of friendly furry, feathered and scaled creatures there to greet arriving guests the party got off to a roaring start.
The sit down dinner was held in the Zoo’s themed ‘Jungle’ Marquee adorned with with monkeys, bananas and wild animals and this year was to support Taronga Zoo’s Chimpanzee program. The line-up of ‘items’ for the auctions was extraordinary. From a safari in Africa to a cruise on the Alaskan fiords to staying in Broome as guests of the Paspaleys to a weekend stay in a Harry Seidler house and more. The auction for the opportunity to name a series of Peter Alexander pyjamas after your pooch was a hoot and we are still unsure which doggie’s name will ordorn your next P.J.s.
The party bubbled along under the guidance of MCs Sara Groen and Tom Williams. A video presentation on Chimpanzees informed and amused before Monica and George Washingmachine cranked up some jazz. Guests mingled, partied and danced with the outdoor balcony area and the harbour breeze being a very popular spot to be.
Most important factor of the night – they raised $480,000!! The success of this event is due largely to the great efforts and generosity of zoo supporters and volunteers and workers without whom Taronga would not be the iconic zoo it is.
Sydney’s Taronga Zoo is one of (if not THE) great zoos of the world and deserves all the support we can give it so visit the zoo, donate or become a member. Also be sure to secure a ticket for next year’s ‘Zoofari’ event. More information http://taronga.org.au/.
